Which G&H archwire to choose
Four lines, each for a different stage and clinical need.
| Archwire | Material | When to use it | What it brings to your practice |
|---|---|---|---|
| G4™ NiTi | Superelastic nickel-titanium | Alignment and levelling, with constant force and shape memory | Predictable results; fewer losses from products with inconsistent performance |
| M5™ Thermal Co NiTi | Copper-nickel-titanium, full thermal transformation at 28°C | When insertion into brackets and tubes is difficult and you want gentle forces | Easier insertion and greater patient comfort |
| TitanMoly™ | Beta titanium-molybdenum, nickel-free | Custom bends and a wide working range; patients with nickel allergy | Bends without risk of fracture |
| S3™ Stainless Steel | Stainless steel | Occlusal and aesthetic finishing | Strength for consistent finishing; the best-selling G&H archwire at UpOrtho |

Archwire line details
G4™ Niti
Constant force,, optimal elasticity and shape memory.
Which clinical problems does the G4™ archwire solve?
• Malocclusion
• Spacing
• Crowding
• Over-eruption
• Overbite / underbite
State-of-the-art testing of the stress/strain behaviour of nickel-titanium archwires is carried out with the three-point deflection test (Fig. A), using a load cell that acts on the archwire and records forces over the whole range from deflection to elastic recovery.

How the hysteresis curve (Fig. B) demonstrates the clinical performance of the NiTi archwire (elasticity, constant force, shape memory):
1. Test start – Deflection starts in a water bath at 36°C (three-point test).
2. Austenitic → martensitic transition – High elasticity between 0.5–1.0 mm; active archwire, moving from increasing force to constant force.
3. Martensitic plateau (constant force) – Engagement force ≈ 275 gf between 0.6–2.0 mm; effective superelastic behaviour over large deflections.
4. Maximum deflection (3.0 mm) – Maximum force ≈ 270 gf, similar to that at 0.6 mm; the transition rebound initiates tooth-moving forces.
5. Controlled unloading – Forces drop slightly and stabilise on re-entering the martensitic state, ensuring constant unloading.
6. Shape memory – Full recovery at ≈ 160 gf, maintaining effective forces throughout shape recovery.

M5™ Thermal Cu NiTi
Full thermal transformation at 28°C for predictable tooth-moving forces.
Which clinical problems does the M5™ archwire solve?
• Difficulty inserting the archwire into bracket slots
• Discomfort and pain felt by the patient
• Deformation and distortion of the orthodontic archwire
TitanMoly™
Optimally combines flexibility and strength, making it ideal for complex orthodontic treatment.
Which clinical problems does the TitanMoly™ archwire solve?
• Excessive stiffness of stainless steel archwires and their tendency to fracture when bent, with insufficient elastic recovery and difficult slot insertion
• Patients with nickel allergy
• Clinical situations that need a wider working range and greater flexibility for multiple adjustments and custom bends
S3™ Stainless Steel
Offers exceptional durability and high flexibility for precise adjustments.
Which clinical problems does the S3™ archwire solve?
• Fragility of conventional archwires and their tendency to break
• Difficulty achieving the desired occlusal and aesthetic finish
• Poor-quality archwires, associated with patient discomfort, mucosal trauma (poking/irritation) and pain
