Features:

• In the past, clinicians had to use various black materials to remove background distractions from presentation images. Today, these contrastors come with a detachable, autoclavable handle (similar to mirror handles), allowing even patients to hold them steady in a simple and comfortable way.
• The contrastors are made from 3 mm thick aluminum with a special non-reflective black coating. They are positioned behind the anterior teeth with a palatal curvature. Depending on the diameter of the dental arch, different widths are available; however, in most cases, two sizes are sufficient for routine clinical use.

Use:

• Make sure the contrastor is not held parallel to the image plane. If held parallel, light from the illumination system will be reflected directly into the camera, usually resulting in a low-contrast background. The best way to achieve a truly black background is to hold the contrastor at a slight angle behind the row of teeth, as if you were reflecting the light upward.
